How to Roll a Hash Hole With a Paper Tip
Quick answer: Put a wide tip in a king size cone, stand a chopstick down the center, pack ground flower around it, pull the chopstick out, and slide in a thin rope of rosin or hash. Stop the rope about a centimeter short of the tip, top off with flower, and twist the end. You don't need a glass or wood tip. If you're new to the idea, start with what is a hash hole joint.
What you need
- A king size cone, or king size paper you're comfortable rolling
- A 12mm tip, which fits a king size cone's mouth end
- A chopstick, thin metal straw or packing stick
- Ground flower, medium grind
- A rope of rosin or pressed hash, roughly the thickness of a pencil lead to a coffee stirrer
The Das 12mm tip is 12mm x 30mm, which gives a firm, open mouth end on a fat roll.
Steps
- Set the tip. Seat the 12mm tip in the cone's mouth end so it's snug.
- Place the stick. Stand the chopstick straight down the center, resting on the tip.
- Pack around it. Add flower in small amounts and tap the cone so it settles evenly on all sides.
- Pull the stick. Twist it gently as you lift it out. You should see a clean channel.
- Make the rope. Roll the concentrate between your fingers, warm, into a thin rope a bit shorter than the channel.
- Insert the rope. Drop it in. Leave about 1cm of flower between the rope and the tip.
- Close it. Fill the rest with flower, pack lightly, and twist the end.
Common mistakes
- Rope too thick. It melts faster than the flower burns and runs down the side.
- Rope touching the tip. Concentrate melts into the tip and clogs it. Keep the gap.
- Uneven packing. One loose side burns first and the joint canoes.
- Lighting too hot. Toast the end slowly while turning it.
Which tip size?
For a king size cone, 12mm. For a thinner 1 1/4 roll, an 8mm tip fits better, but there's less room for the rope. How much concentrate to use is in how much hash for a hash hole. For packing technique, see how to pack a banana leaf cone; the same tapping method works for paper cones.
Frequently asked questions
Can you roll a hash hole without a glass tip?
Yes. Leave about 1cm of flower between the rope and a wide disposable tip.
What do you use to make the hole?
A chopstick, thin metal straw or packing stick.
Why does my hash hole run or canoe?
Usually a thick rope, uneven packing or lighting too hot.
Is it easier with a cone?
Yes. A cone holds its shape while you pack.
