Rolling Paper, Filter Tip and Cone Size Calculator
Quick answer: Pick your paper size and the tool shows its size in mm and inches, the filter tip width that fits it, and roughly how much it holds. Single wide takes a 6mm tip, 1 1/4 and king size slim take 7mm or 8mm, and regular king size takes 8mm or 12mm. Enter how much you have and it estimates how many rolls you'll get.
The size chart behind the tool
| Size | Length x width | Tip that fits | Approx. fill |
|---|---|---|---|
| Single wide | 69–70 x 36–38mm | 6mm (Slim Jim) | Smallest paper |
| 1 1/4 | 77–78 x 44mm | 7mm (Midway) or 8mm (Big Boy) | About 0.5–0.75g (as a 98mm cone) |
| King size slim | 108–110 x 42–46mm | 7mm or 8mm | About 1g (as a king cone) |
| King size | 108–110 x 53–60mm | 8mm or 12mm | About 1g (as a king cone) |
| Small cone | About 84mm long | Built in | About 0.3–0.5g |
Paper sizes come from Zig-Zag's rolling paper size chart and paper maker Roll4You's spec sheet. Brands vary by a millimeter or two, so if your booklet lists its size, go by that. Fill amounts are the ranges from our pre-rolled cones guide. Loose papers don't have a fixed capacity; they hold what you pack into them.
How the roll count is worked out
The tool divides the grams you have by the low and high fill for that size and rounds down, since a half-filled roll isn't a roll. With 3.5g (an eighth) and 1 1/4 cones at 0.5–0.75g, you get about 4 to 7 cones. With king size cones at about 1g, you get about 3. Grind finer and pack tighter and you land near the low end of the count; pack loose and you land near the high end.
Why tip width matters
The tip has to leave enough paper to wrap around it and still overlap at the gum line. On a narrow single wide paper, a 6mm tip leaves that overlap. On 1 1/4 and king slim, 7mm is the easy choice and 8mm gives a wider draw. A 12mm tip needs the extra width of regular king size papers, which is why we pair it there. Tip length matters less: our Midway is 7mm by 28mm and the Big Boy is 8mm by 37mm. More detail is in the filter tip size guide and the rolling paper sizes chart.
Rolling machines are sized to paper length too. A 1 1/4 machine takes 1 1/4 papers and a king size machine takes king size papers.
FAQ
What size filter tip goes with 1 1/4 papers?
A 7mm or 8mm tip. 1 1/4 papers are about 44mm wide, which leaves enough paper to wrap either and still seal.
What size tip fits king size papers?
King size slim (about 44mm wide) takes a 7mm or 8mm tip. Regular king size (53 to 60mm wide) takes an 8mm or a 12mm tip.
How much does a 1 1/4 cone hold?
About 0.5 to 0.75 grams for a 98mm 1 1/4 cone. A king size cone holds about 1 gram and a small 84mm cone about 0.3 to 0.5 grams.
How many cones can I fill with an eighth?
An eighth is 3.5 grams, so about 4 to 7 of the 1 1/4 cones (0.5 to 0.75g each) or about 3 king size cones.
What tip size goes with single wide papers?
A 6mm tip. Single wide papers are only 36 to 38mm wide, so a slim tip leaves room to overlap and seal.
